The Merced SPCA
$5 CHALLENGE
Merced County Animal Services has the 2nd highest kill-rate in California at over 38%. That means almost 40% of the pets and strays that enter the doors will NEVER leave. (Animalrescuesforchange.org/2020-2024)
Statistics have shown that almost 90% of strays, homeless and abandoned animals in Merced County are a direct result of unaltered pets.
The Merced SPCA is committed to finding solutions for decreasing the number of unaltered pets in our communities. We have had great success with our low-cost spay and neuter programs for cats and dogs. Unfortunately, those programs are funded by grants and when the funding is spent, the program ends.
This year, we are challenging you to support a continuous low-cost spay and neuter program to help us decrease the overwhelming number of unhoused animals on our streets.
For a one-time gift of $5.00 (the price of a Starbucks or Dutch Brothers drink), you can support our ongoing effort to eliminate the loss of lives in our local shelter. No animal should have to die, just because they were born.

LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM
IT'S BACK!
Starting October 1, 2025, the Merced SPCA will begin registering dogs and puppies for its low-cost spay and neuter program. This program is funded by a generous grant from the City of Merced and agency matching funds.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
1. Owners must be residents of the City of Merced (proof will be required- i.e: utility bill, ID, other documentation with name and address).
2. Dogs must be under 60lbs. and puppies must be over 2.5 months old. Pugs, Frenchies, Boxers and other dog breeds with know breathing issues, as well as dogs over 60lbs or over 10 years old are not eligible for this program.
3. Complete one application below per dog or puppy- LIMIT TWO PER HOUSEHOLD. Please make sure your contact information is correct (name, email and mobile#). Email the application to MERCED.SPCA@YAHOO.COM
Once your application has been received, you will emailed an appointment date and time. If you cannot make it to your appointment, you will be rescheduled after all other registrants have been scheduled.
4. Pay $75 via Venmo, PayPal or Cash App or with a debit or credit card through our DONATE page. Make sure you specify name of pet when submitting payment. Payment must be received prior to appointment.
5. All services will be through Turlock Spay & Neuter. Once you receive verification of your appointment, please complete the paperwork emailed to you by Turlock Spay & Neuter. You must transport your pet to the appointment.
