Check Before you Drive to Save a Life!

If you are unable to park your car in a garage, try to get in the habit of doing a quick check for unwanted passengers before you start your car. A quick bang on the hood, or a beep of your horn might be enough to get the little hitchhiker away.
-
Look under your car & tires
-
Open up the hood!
-
Give them some time
Starting the car without checking could severely injure or cause death to the cats.
Don't Leave Your Pet in a Parked Car

As temperatures start to rise, remember to never leave your pet in a parked vehicle! On a warm day, the temperature in a car can exceed 120 degrees in minutes!
Read about ways you can help if you see an animal in a parked car and signs of heat stress.

Found Kittens?
Here's what to do:
Beginners Guide to Bottle Feeding:

Don’t panic—follow these steps to help safely.
Step 1: Look Before You Act
• Do you see the mother nearby?
She might just be out hunting or hiding. Watch from a distance for a few hours.
• If mom comes back and is caring for them, leave them be.
She’s their best chance at survival.
Step 2: Check for Urgent Needs
• Are the kittens cold, sick, injured, or in danger (e.g. traffic, predators, weather)?
• Is the mom nowhere in sight after several hours?
These kittens might need your help.
Step 3: Call for Backup
• Contact Merced SPCA or a local rescue.
• Trained rescuers can provide safe solutions and expert care.
Step 4: Temporary Kitten Care?
If you’re stepping in to help:
• Keep them warm and safe—kittens can’t regulate body temperature.
• Feed only kitten-specific milk formula (KMR).
Never use cow or goat milk.
• Use bottles or feeding syringes. Newborns need feeding every 2–3 hours!
Step 5: Reach Out for Support
• New to kitten care? You’re not alone!
• Merced SPCA and local rescues can offer guidance, supplies, and vet support.
Remember:
It’s okay to ask for help. These tiny lives depend on community compassion!
