ABOUT US
HISTORY & MISSION

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in 1967 as a partnership between Merced County Sheriff's Posse and Merced County Farmer's Association, as the oversight agency for the welfare of farm animals in Merced County. Since then, the organization has gone through many changes and since 2016 has become a Trap-Neuter-Return and Animal Foster organization. It is one of Merced oldest 501(c)3 agencies and not affiliated with any national programs.
Our mission has been to work collaboratively with the community to rescue, foster and transport homeless cats and kittens in Merced to no-kill partner rescues for adoption; to improve our community’s environmental health and safety by reducing illnesses in feral animals through trapping and vaccinations; and to continue to spay and neuter of as many of Merced’s animals as we can through our TNR program in an effort to decrease the overwhelming euthanasia rate due to abandonment, abuse and overpopulation.
We are an organization of volunteers that believes that we can build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. We currently provide daily care for over 60+ colonies of community cats in Merced. We operate solely on donations from our community.
